Welcome to Inthehabit

The site for photographs of Buddhist Monks (and the odd Nun) and their colourful habits. Unlike monks in the west, Buddhist monks are part of the community and thanks to their colourful robes make for great photographs. Many are boys (novice monks) from poor families who can not afford to educate, clothe and feed them properly. At around eighteen they have the choice to leave and get a job or become career monks, most leave, hence the high proportion of youthful novices at monasteries.
